The Practice Educator Programme at SWITA was designed to support the implementation of the NHS England Educator Workforce Strategy and Safe Learning Environment Charter. As demands on the NHS continue to grow, the education and training of both current and future healthcare professionals have never been more critical. However, increased service pressures mean educators face greater challenges in supporting their learners effectively.
Our Practice Educator strategy focuses on sustainable, high-impact approaches to empower radiography and imaging educators. By supporting and valuing our educators, we aim to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout, enabling educators to provide the best possible support to their learners and patients.
Our commitment to educators includes:
A Community of Practice
Bringing together practice educators across the South West, this peer network fosters collaboration, resource sharing and mutual support through mentorship and shared experiences.
Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS)
RCS offers educators a confidential, supportive space to reflect on emotionally challenging situations. These one-on-one sessions help staff process complex experiences, build empathy and enhance their interactions with learners – especially in sensitive circumstances – ultimately improving the student experience and learning environment.
Coaching and Mentoring
We provide structured coaching and mentoring sessions aimed at professional growth and wellbeing. Coaching promotes reflective practice, self-awareness and effective stress management, while mentoring reduces professional isolation and supports career progression through guidance and shared insights.
Professional Development Opportunities
Practice educators are supported to undertake education and training opportunities and gain accreditation with the Society and College of Radiographers.
By equipping educators with these tools and opportunities, SWITA ensures they are prepared to proactively address challenges, improve learner outcomes and thrive in their vital roles.
