From Learner to Practitioner – Diagnostic Radiography Study Day

This is a 1 day course aimed at Diagnostic Radiography learners.

The South West Imaging Training Academy From Learner to Practitioner: Diagnostic Radiography Study Day is designed to support individuals at the pre-registration and early practitioner stage, and is aligned with the College of Radiographers Education and Career Framework (ECF, 4th edition).

Bringing together a mix of expert-led sessions and hands-on workshops, the day offers a safe and supportive environment to explore what it really means to work as part of a modern imaging team. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your technical abilities, strengthen your clinical reasoning and gain insight into different imaging modalities through interactive, small-group learning.

The morning programme explores the pillars of education, leadership and research. Focusing on the human side of healthcare, exploring topics such as compassionate leadership, psychological safety and creating inclusive, supportive workplaces. These sessions aim to help you understand how to thrive within a team, communicate effectively and contribute positively to workplace culture – skills that are just as important as clinical competence.

You’ll also explore how to support others in learning, reflect on your own development and gain insight into the wide range of career opportunities available in radiography. Whether you’re just starting out or thinking about your future direction, these sessions are designed to inspire and empower you.

The afternoon shifts into practical, hands-on learning where you’ll rotate through workshops covering key imaging areas such as ultrasound, CT, general radiography and image interpretation. These sessions allow you to apply theory to practice, build confidence with equipment and techniques, and learn in a relaxed, supportive environment with guidance from experienced practitioners.

Overall, this study day brings together everything you need to start your journey with confidence – developing your clinical skills, understanding your role, and exploring future opportunities.
